Perranporth Art Strategy
Artist(s): Natalie Woolf
Client: Carrick District Council
The use of creativity in regeneration helps to create and sustain a village’s competitiveness and revitalisation through the enhancement of local distinctiveness and civic pride.
The aim of this development study was to place the role of public art practice at the heart of the creative renaissance of Perranporth. Our work set out the key areas of influence that the role of public art and artists should play in the regeneration of the village within the wider Urban development framework undertaken by Lavigne Lonsdale and Stride Treglown. The document does not set a creative strait jacket; it does however set out to raise ambitions.
Working with Lead Artist Natalie Woolf we developed two projects to build confidence in the role and scope of artists within the village. The first was a Treasure Hunt composed of pictorial riddles contained with a pack of playing cards, which would encourage visitors to explore the area. The second, Colourful Village, was a painting project to build a colour palette for building facades.
