Wonderwall
Client: North Ayrshire Council
Artist: Bruce McLean
This is a unique project that evolved from a research process involving teachers, administrators and architects working together to design a new primary school in North Ayrshire. The resulting ambitions and aspirations for the project were discussed through a national seminar and published book called "a machine for learning"
"Wonderwall" was one of the identified projects that was prioritised in the research. The total north facade of the new school was replaced by this intervention. The work has two states – "open" and "closed". In its closed state it acts as a giant ruler in the landscape. In the open state seven zones are revealed, each zone animates the operations and activities of the working school. The whole work provides an insight into measurement and dissemination of information.
